AGATE Overview

No gemstone is more creatively striped by nature than agate. It is a chalcedony quartz that forms in concentric layers in a wide variety of colors and textures. Agate is found as a round nodule, with concentric bands like the rings of a tree trunk.

Healing Properties

Agate is used for stomach upsets. Place the agate on the solar plexus. The agate can't change emotions, but helps to change our level of acceptance of the emotion. Such as when you are very sad the agate will let you know that this will pass and help you get on to another and better day. This is why the Agate is considered so powerful as it gives us the strength to carry on. Carry an agate when you have to make an important decision.

Mythical Legend

Agate was highly valued as a talisman or amulet in ancient times. It was said to quench thirst and protect from fevers. Persian magicians used Agate to divert storms. A famous collection of two to four thousand agate bowls which was accumulated by Mithradates,  king of Pontus, shows the enthusiasm with which agate was regarded. Agate bowls were also popular in the Byzantine Empire. Collecting agate bowls became common among European royalty during the Renaissance.
